With so many jars claiming tight, youthful
skin, how's a beautiful Betty supposed to choose the right product to keep her
face looking great at any age? From dry, windy winters to humid summers, your
face takes a daily beating, and the right cream can nourish those skin cells,
helping you put your best face to the world each day. Cut through the BS to
find the right product that will keep your skin looking vibrant and healthy --
and learn what to avoid in moisturizing creams.
1.Know your skin type before you shop. If you have
oily skin, an oil-based moisturizing cream is a no-no. If you have sensitive
skin that dries out easily, you need a thicker moisturizer to boost skin
hydration. Many moisturizing creams specify a skin type to make shopping
easier.
2.Consider your age; skincare's one area where age
does matter! Teens and early-20s women want a moisturizer with vitamins C and E
to protect skin from natural sun damage. Late-20s females can keep the same
lotion, but should throw in a retinol moisturizing cream at night. This
encourages skin renewal, which keeps skin cells tight and youthful. Women in
their 30s want serum, not cream. Serums are packed with age-fighting compounds
that can keep skin looking young. Chicks in their 30s also should put on eye cream
at night to ward off wrinkles and apply a heavier moisturizer to nourish skin.
Don't be afraid of oil-laden creams, since you're warding off wrinkles here!
3.Choose water-based moisturizers to avoid
introducing oil that can clog pores (read: cause zits and enlarged pores -- a
major no-no!). Look for the words "non-comedogenic," which means the
lotion won't clog pores and cause acne.
4.Stay away from products containing alcohol, mineral
oil or heavy fragrance. All of these things can irritate your skin, clog pores,
increase acne or give your skin a greasy pallor. Grosstastic! A girl's best bet
is to opt for a moisturizer that is fragrance-free and intended for use
specifically on your face.
