5 Good Things About iPads

Size

  • The Apple iPad is a light and thin device. The iPad 2 measures a mere 0.34 inch in width, which is 33 percent thinner than the original iPad, according to CNET.com. It's even thinner than the iPhone 4, and weighs just 1.3 lbs. Its size makes it more portable for traveling and attending meetings than laptop computers, as well as more accessible in a variety of environments, including those in which you do not have a place to set it down.

Usability

  • The iPad's user-friendly multitouch screen offers intuitive operation. There is no computer mouse or dedicated keyboard; instead, you input commands and manipulate images and graphics with swipes and touches of your fingers. When you need to type, you summon a keyboard that appears on the screen. The lack of a dedicated keyboard allows for more screen space.

E-Reader

  • One of the iPad's best and most popular features is its capability as an electronic reader. Through its iBook app you can download books to read on the tablet, and Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble,
    • among others, have developed book-reading apps for the iPad, too. The quality of the screen image, powered by an LED-backlit display screen, and the lightness of the device makes it a natural for reading. It also makes for a good fit for reading periodicals. Some magazines, such as "The New Yorker" and "Vanity Fair" have editions specifically for the iPad, while "The Daily," a national news outlet, is limited to distribution on the iPad only.

Third-Party Apps

    • Apple allows developers to create apps specifically for the iPad. You have at your fingertips thousands of apps available for download. The apps enable you to personalize your computer experience, including making it more functional for your needs. Many apps are developed specifically for the strengths and weaknesses of the iPad. Games are a particularly popular category of app for the iPad, which has more titles than other tablet computers.

Cameras

    • The iPad features a camera on both the front and back of the device. The cameras allow you to engage in video-calling with a friend or colleague, even allowing you to switch cameras during the call to provide a different view to the other caller. You can take photos and shoot high resolution video and then edit them on the iPad.
